Simultaneous Translation is basically real-time interpretation, using appropriate equipament, including a sound system, headphones, and a soundproof booth. While the speaker speaks, the interpreter listens and conveys the message directly to everyone in the room.
Generally, the interpreters work in pairs, since the events at which Simultaneous Translation is used are usually rather lengthy and require extreme mental effort and concentration on the part of these professionals; the quality of the translation may be impaired if the conference interpreter worked alone.
